The Baltic Sustainability in Architecture, Construction, and Design 2025 Gala Ceremony took place on September 10, 2025, in the Kokaru Hall of the Mežaparks Grand Stage, celebrating sustainable building professionals and filled with positive emotions.
This competition, held on a Baltic scale for the fourth consecutive year, is organized by the Building Design and Construction Council (BDCC) — led by Gunita Jansone and Agrita Lūse — in close cooperation with Riga Municipality, the State Construction Control Bureau (BVKB), and the Green Homes Association. A total of 37 entries were submitted, showcasing valuable and diverse experiences in delivering and implementing sustainable ideas.
The Baltic Sustainability in Architecture, Construction, and Design 2025: Most Sustainable Building — Reconstruction 2025
1st place: Spīdala House in Cēsis
Architects: OUTOFBOX. Builder: VIM.
Sustainable construction does not simply mean following the “green deal.” The concept is much broader — it involves assessing the rationale and thoughtfulness at every stage of a building’s creation, starting with design and construction and ending with interior design and the building’s potential future value in the context of societal development. One of the most important criteria is the social aspect: how much the building meets people’s needs, how individuals can feel while using it, accessibility, and the quality of the indoor microclimate for work or living spaces.
Competition Jury: Agrita Lūse — BDCC board member, publicist; Rimantas Giedraitis — Professor at the Kaunas Faculty of the Vilnius Academy of Arts, architect; Uldis Balodis — architect, sustainable construction expert; Sandris Celmiņš — Head of the Construction Works Control Department, BVKB; Kaarel Kunnap — architect, sustainable construction expert; Anna Vasiļjeva — architect, building restoration expert; Santa Pupiņa — Head of the Urban Planning and Construction Department, Daugavpils Municipality and Māris Želvis — sustainable building materials expert.
