This week marks the closing of the Cēsis Art Festival and the exhibition “Screen”

In the digital age, we most often encounter the human image through a screen. Faces, close-ups, and casually captured moments constantly fill our everyday visual environment. Amid this endless stream of images, Ritums Ivanovs turns to painting, allowing what we see on screen to acquire a different sense of time and a physical presence.

The exhibition’s setting adds another layer to its story. Konrāds House was once home to Cēsis’ first cinema, where the town’s first moving pictures were shown. Ivanovs’ works invite us to pause and reflect on how the digital environment has transformed both the representation of the human figure and the ways in which we look and perceive.
