“Žagaru māja” opens its doors and renovation works continue in “Konrāda kvartāls”

The renovation has been completed and we have opened “Žagaru māja” – a country house in the ancient valley of the Gauja River in Cēsis. This house was previously home to the family of the Latvian actor, public figure and entrepreneur Juris Žagars, a native of Cēsis.

“My wife and I bought this house because of the unique location and the charm of the typical summer house architecture of the independent state. We had decided that this was the ideal place where we wanted to live – the city is nearby, but you are in nature. In the summer, you can swim in the Gauja River in the morning, in the winter, the mountain is nearby, and the center of Cēsis is nearby with an evening cocktail in the old town cafes, and a concert hall. However, unfortunately, you cannot live in two places at the same time, so in the end we decided in favor of my ancestral home in the countryside. I am extremely proud of how well “Draugiem Group” has restored the house, and seeing it, I really want to live in it again,” says the former owner of the house, Juris Žagars.

“We want to give the opportunity to “try on” Cēsis from different points of view, so when renovating “Žagaru māja”, we also put an emphasis on the pearls of the Cēsis region. The landscape of the ancient Gauja valley and the house built during the first independent state of Latvia will give guests the opportunity to enjoy a rural idyll next to the Cīrulīši nature trails and the recreation complex “Žagarkalns,” says Andis Malahovskis, the manager of the company “Mājās Cēsīs.” 

The renovation works of the “Konrāda kvartāls” are also actively continuing – the unique ensemble of several houses in the very heart of Cēsis will open its doors next year. “Currently, archaeological research is underway in the old town, as a result of which we have already discovered the defensive walls of the 13th-century castle, ancient burials, and the foundations of a log house,” says A. Malahovskis about the progress of the works.

At the beginning of this year, the renovation of the design hotel “Spīdalas nams” was completed, where you can enjoy an overnight stay in six apartments. Later, “Mājas Cēsis” also purchased the neighboring houses – in one of them, Andrejs Pumpurs wrote the epic “Lāčplēsis”. In the future, it is planned to create a Pumpurs quarter there, which will consist of “Spīdalas nams”, “Lāčplēša nams” and “Laimdotas nams”, creating a recreation area next to the walls of Cēsis Castle.

We, “Mājas Cēsis”, are a “Draugiem Group” company, whose main mission is to make the city even more attractive to residents. So far, free drinking water taps have been installed in publicly accessible places, a sloping tree square #CēsisPievelk has been created, as well as extensive cooperation with the Vidzeme Technology and Design Technical School, the concert hall “Cēsis”, and the international chess festival “Chess Festival Cēsis”.
